Mass of Consolation
Are you grieving the loss of a child due to a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still-birth, abortion, invitro fertilization? We also want to recognize the heartache that can arise from placing your child for adoption. We offer you, the parents and family members, the opportunity to acknowledge and grieve your loss and to lovingly remember your dear baby during this special Mass.
Mass of Consolation
thank you to all who attended
Tuesday, May 5, 7pm
St. Catherine of Siena Parish
6466 Bayers Road, Halifax, NS
-- to offer consolation to families
who have lost a dear baby before birth
(miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth,
abortion, in vitro fertilization)
-- to offer support to those
who made the life-giving choice
of adoption for their dear baby
This Mass is held yearly.
For those who attend the Mass of Consolation, we have a book dedicated to our babies called "Never Forgotten, Always Loved". The parents and relatives are invited to include their baby in this book.
Following are some of the loving words recorded in this book:
Baby Wesley - You are ours forever. We will hold you soon. (mama & papa)
For our 3 angels that we will forever remember and love. (mommy, daddy and brother)
Mary, Joseph and Nana remember you.
With faith that my two children and two grandchildren are with the Heavenly Family. God Bless you. We will meet again.
Christian Benoit, my son, who rests in the arms of Mother Mary. His spirit gives life to my heart. (love, mommy)
Our daughter stillborn Sept. 1966. I never held you in my arms but you are in my heart forever. (love, mommy) I saw you for a little while after you were born but already gone to the Lord. You were so beautiful. We love you and think about you. (love, daddy)
Sabrina and Angela, our dear angels in heaven, our joy will be to see you some day. (love Gramma)
Baby Jacob - we will always love you and never forget you. (love, mom & dad)
(This Mother writes about her son for whom she chose adoption.) It was a pleasure and my life dream fulfilled to have met you again. (love, your birth mother)
For my children in heaven who were lost to me through miscarriage: you are always my children whom I love from afar. I will never forget you. May you have peace and joy. (love, mom)
"From Despair to Hope"
One of our Project Rachel women, who is presently a facilitator, wrote the following for the Mass of Consolation in 2005.
"After such a loss, you despair that your life will ever become peaceful again. You ask yourself, "Will I ever be the same or will I ever be happy again."
But there is hope. There is hope in God's word and His faithfulness to his promise.
In John 14:27, Jesus said, "I leave you peace; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world does. So don't let your hearts be troubled or afraid."
This promise is a free gift of love, a free gift of mercy and a free gift of grace. But we have to be open and willing to receive these gifts. "God loves each one of us like there was only one of us to love." He sees our value, He sees us with the eyes of a Father, because we are all His and created by Him.
1 Peter 5:7 says, "Give all your worries over to Him, because he cares about you."
There is hope in God's word. He loves and forgives us and wants to show that. His promises never fail.
Do not be afraid to talk with God. He is ready to hear from you. He can handle any emotion you have. Sadness, fear, even your anger. Be honest with your heart to Him as He is honest to us. With our feelings out in the open and in His hands, He is then free to heal us.
Knowing God and having a personal relationship with him I found a Savior, who found me worth saving, who knows all I have done and loves me without conditions, and a friend like no other. And with this truth, I also found hope and peace in God's integrity. He knows our past, present and future and with our heart open to Him, we will be filled with all that he is and he will heal those wounds. I hold on to this hope with faith.
Psalm 73:25-24
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail
But God you are the strength of my heart
And my portion forever
My heart has heard you say "Come and talk with me, my people. And my heart responds "Lord, I am coming."
